This weekend was good, but with an afternoon of "I have to do what?!" thrown in. We'll start with the good. Saturday was my first baby shower. My college roommates, who seem to be reproducing like mad, throw showers for everybody's first baby. Between our side of the house and the other side (we lived in a duplex), there were 6 girls and 7 guys, and since most of the wives of the guys either went to school with us or started dating their husbands when we were in school, we include everybody...that equals a lot of baby showers :) This one was actually a triple shower! Me, a girl due 2 wks before me, and a girl due 2 wks after me. Yep, mini-baby boom. It was really fun. I swear, I have the most amazing friends. They got us such great things and of course we had a fab time hanging out and catching up. I was exhausted by the time I got home Saturday night of course (shower was in Columbus which is 2 hrs away), but it was well worth it.
Sunday was such a gorgeous day! It felt like spring around here! I had to keep reminding myself that its only February and we have plenty more winter ahead of us! But visions of gardens and flowerbeds kept popping into my head :) So, I helped Kelly outside in the morning and enjoyed the warm fresh air, then we were off to town to run some errands and go to our "childbirth education" class. This is where the "I have to do WHAT?!" comes in. haha! It sort of pulled me out of my safe little bubble of denial that yes, this child actually has to come out, one way or another. It was actually educational and I'm glad we went, it was just a bit scary. I'm feeling better now...a couple of days later, partially b/c I've been able to slip back into denial land a bit and partially b/c I feel like I have a little bit of a plan worked out. Pretty sure epidural is in that plan. I just don't think I'm tough enough to go the natural route. Any readers experienced in the childbirth thing to give me advice/experiences? I like hearing from normal people who have actually been through it, to get an idea what I'm in for and just how bad it might or might not be.
Even with that "wake-up call", I find myself getting more and more excited. We have 8 weeks to go. WOW. That is practically no time at all! I'm getting so excited to meet our baby, see what he or she looks like...will they look like me or like Kelly? Whose eyes, whose nose? And of course, the obvious, boy or girl?! Baby has been bouncing around happily in there lately and I love it. Well, except the repeated jumps on my bladder. But if that's the worst I have to deal with, its not so bad. In the last week or so, baby's started getting hiccups. Such a funny feeling! For only having 2 months left, I'm happy to be feeling so good. Hopefully it continues this way for a while!
I'll try to do more than just boring "weekend updates" soon. I feel so behind on blogging and reading. There's so much more going on to talk about too!

8 weeks! HOW EXCITING!
I was like you...I was SURE I wanted nothing to do with a natural birth.
That said, I went FAST. As in, they did give me the epidural (at my insistance) but it was the worst part of the whole experience...because I was so far along that the contractions were impossible to stay still with, but I KNEW I had to...but it was SO painful. And then they didn't get the epidural going right in time for it to work anyway....I had a natural birth anyhow. And the kicker? I still have a LOT of pain in my back (mostly to the touch, but some just on its own too) from the epidural which failed. Which, I hear, is a common experience...the pain after. And my kid is 14 mo old! Though I've heard from people with kids ranging from 2-5 and they say yeah, they have some back pain fromt he epidural, too. I wish I would have KNOWN that.
I never thought I COULD do it without an epidural, but I was progressing fast, the pushing WENT fast, and I had no choice...but it wasn't anything as bad as I'd have thought.
My advice to people now is that if you ARE progressing quickly, don't do it! But, of course, it's a whole other story if you think you're going to be in labor for a long time. Which, I guess, most people are. But placing the epidural was MUCH MUCH worse than the 20 min of pushing. Especially considering the residual pain!
Good luck deciding what to do...I think it's best to go with the flow and just see what happens!!
That sounds like so much fun! I'm glad you had a great shower. It sounds like you have wonderful friends. Surprisingly I haven't been to a baby shower since I've been back. Ha- I say that now I'll be going to ton. :)
